The Painted Desert

This was a place on my list of ‘places to see some day’. Again, from the time I was a kid, my dad told me about this amazing desert that has waves of sand, all different colors. Well, I imagined it was something like those sand jars you buy with the pretty blue and purple sand layers.  (I was 12) Before we headed north on this trip, to include the Petrified Forest, I did a little research. (I have no idea why I had never looked I up before) The pictures I found online looked like a big red sandy desert.  That was not my idea of a vacation, so I figured we could skip that.

What I didn’t realize was that the Petrified forest  “park” runs about 30 miles and ends up IN the Painted Desert.  So, by accident we did get to see this place. For the $10 entrance fee, this made the fee worth it. While I was greatly let down by the Petrified Forest, the Painted Desert was WAY better than I imagined from my search online. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, due to the 187 degree temperatures, we stayed IN the car… keep it moving!
